Subject: RE: Minutes of first Rebel Class Nationals 2007 Planning Meeting
Meeting Notes for Rebel Class Nationals 2007 Planning meeting #1.  (If I left anything out, please let me know)

The first meeting of the Fleet 21 regatta committee was held on July 7 at 7 PM to focus on planning the Rebel Class National Regatta in 2007.

Attendance was healthy with 10 people participating and several more who sent regrets, but asked to be included in future planning meetings.  Previous regatta plans were discussed, and the current regatta being held this week in Cold Water Lake in Michigan was used as a model for what would be a baseline for our regatta.

Various alternative plans were discussed including:
1) Hosting the regatta at Nyack
2) Setting up a temporary home at Browns Point
3) Running the regatta like Cold Water Lake, Michigan is running their regatta utilizing people's homes

Options 1 & 2 were thrown out by the committee as they drive up expenses and most importantly, complexity.  We all agreed to use option 3 and follow the model of Cold Water Lake.  The similarities between Cold Water Lake and Greenwood Lake are striking.  Both clubs have no real home base for their operations.  Visiting boats will have to moor at host families' docks.  However, these similarities were not seen as a disadvantage,  but rather an asset.  It simplifies the entire regatta planning process by removing the pressure to create banquet dinners every night while still sailing in the races on the lake.  Mooring boats at or near Fleet 21 members' docks will increase communication between those people and will foster bonds which will hopefully last long after the regatta is done.  Any overflow which cannot be handled via available dock space, and moorings can be handled by renting dock space at a local marina for the week such as Sportsman's Marina, but this is only a contingency plan.  Awosting has adequate free space, and we are investigating getting permission to use that space for the week.

We all signed up for committees, and defined the committee leaders.  There is ample support from this core group, but we would love to have the rest of the fleet (and their crew and spouses) participate wherever and whenever they can.  The list of committees and first round of participants is listed below:

Race Committee:  Rose Steele (Chair),  Dan Murphy, Dennis Moeller (and his boat will be the crash boat)

Food Committee: Rose Steele (Chair), George Vurno (Awards Dinner Only), Wendy Gallione

Weighing and Measuring:  Bob Zimmer (Chair), Dennis Moeller, Dan Murphy

Logistics:  Jack Schuhardt, Jeff Schuhardt, Dan Murphy

Registration: Rose Steele (Chair), Wendy Gallione, Dennis Moeller, Chris Hill

Raffle:  Gail Bado (Chair), Dan Murphy, Joan Reichenbach, Rose Steele

Juniors:  TBD

The bid was given verbally over the phone to Nick Tanis, who was last year's class Commodore.  He will be delivering the message to the entire class at the annual meeting which will be held on Monday night.  I have set expectations with Nick that things will be set up similar to the Cold Water Lake Nationals, and asked for as much support from the class members as possible.  He will be drumming up support for us from Michigan during the next week.   We have reserved the week starting with Saturday, July 14 for the regatta.  Races for the Seniors will begin on Monday, July 16 in the afternoon, and will conclude on Thursday at 1 :PM.  Junior races will tentatively be held on Sunday afternoon and Monday AM.

Rose will be talking to the Awosting community to see if we can secure the Inn for the week in case we have rain and want to use it for any events.  We plan to use the boathouse for most of our gatherings, but will revert to the Inn as needed.  The Inn will probably be the official place for the registration process, the welcome dinner, skipper's meeting, and Rebel Class Annual Meeting.

Bill Selick, Jack Schuhardt, and George Vurno volunteered their homes for use one night each, and the food planning committee will work with these homeowners to figure out how best to utilize their offers (ie: dinner vs cocktail party, etc).  Several people on the committee also volunteered to allow one of our guests stay in their homes to defray the traveling costs.  It would be helpful if we could get a list of all the space available, and the names of people who would be willing to take in guests.  This is not mandatory as most of our guests would prefer hotels anyway, but it would be a nice option for those for whom it would be a burden to pay for a hotel in addition to all the other costs of travel.

It was agreed that the next meeting will tentatively be held at 56 Board Road (Bill's house) on Friday, July 28 at 7 PM.  Please note that this committee and the meetings are not restricted to "Captains Only".  Crew, Spouses, social members and friends are more than welcome.

Open items:
1) Does anyone know of a pontoon boat we can use as the committee boat for the week?
2) Can someone find a driver for the pontoon boat?
3) Do we have a place for all the trailers finalized?
4) Will the Class accept our bid?
5) Does anyone have 1-800 conference calling available (possibly through work)?  I would like to include members from the National Class on the next meeting if possible.
