Meeting Notes for Rebel Class Nationals 2007 Planning meeting # 3 (Next meeting at 7 PM, Tuesday, November 14 at Wendy’s house)
The third meeting of the Fleet 21 regatta committee was held on September 9 after the races were called due to lack of wind.
Committee chairs for Logistics, Raffle, and food were in attendance as well as Jack Roe, Dan Murphy, and Bob Buchtman. The focus of the meeting was to give Wendy as many data points on financials as possible, and nail down some of the logistics. We spent a good deal of time discussing the topics in detail, and it was handy being able to focus on this one aspect of the regatta at this point in time.
Bill Selick notified everyone that the Regatta Web Site is now up and running. It can be reached from the Fleet 21 web site, and directly accessed via the following URL: http://www.selick.com/rebel/nationals2007/default.htm
Logistics:
· Jack Schuhardt presented his latest draft for the January Rebel Rabble article. It was followed by an enthusiast critique of the content. Jack will make some improvements, and resubmit.
· The updated list of accommodations has been posted to both the Rabble and to the Regatta Web Site. Dan Murphy updated us on the latest state of the art port-o-potty technology. This topic is now considered closed
· Awosting News: Jack attended the Awosting Community Meeting. The president of the association told everyone about our regatta, and the folks in Awosting are very enthusiastic about the event, and support us in every way that they can. It was pointed out in our discussions that we should reciprocate by supplying sailing training for any juniors in the community that are interested next season. Bill Selick brought up the fact that we should have a schedule created and a line item added to the Awosting Camp flyer specifying that we will make such training available. Jack will follow up with the association, and make his boat available for training. Jack Roe said that he would also make his boat available. Thanks to both of them for their support. Getting juniors to sail on a Rebel is a great way to build the fleet.
· Dock Space: Jack noted that after we secure dock space in the spring from the Awosting residents, we may need to make improvements to the docks to make them safe enough.
· Welcoming/registration location: Jack suggested that we move the welcoming of our guests from the Inn to the boat house. We talked about potential overcrowding conditions, and Jack reminded us that the Star fleet was able to do everything from the boathouse. If we do run into a traffic problem, we can put out the cones at the top of the hill and queue up boats at the tennis court temporarily while our guests get their boats rigged and launched.
Food:
· Jim Miller gave us a presentation on the food menus and venues. The costs were discussed in depth, but will not be detailed in this memo.
· Jack expressed concern about the logistics of moving the venues for food around since we would have to worry about setting up tables and breaking them down and then moving them to another location. We discussed this in depth, and decided that all meals would be served at the boathouse (or if it rains, at the Inn). If someone wants to host at some other venue, they will have to supply their own tables.
· Drinks: Jack Roe’s responsibilities have been expanded to include not only the beer and supporting infrastructure, but also the soda and water. Bottled water will be stocked at the boat house throughout the regatta. Soda will be available for all meals. Beer will be available starting Sunday during evenings only with the exception of during Thursday afternoon after the last race has been sailed. Jack will find a way to keep it all cool, and will replenish the stock of ice periodically.
It was agreed that the next meeting will tentatively be held at Wendy’s house (118 Long Pond Road) on Tuesday, November 14 at 7 PM. Please note that this committee and the meetings are not restricted to "Captains Only". Crew, Spouses, social members and friends are more than welcome.
