2007 REBEL
NATIONALS
July 14-19, 2007
Fleet # 21 will host the Nationals, and we welcome you to Greenwood Lake, New
Jersey.
This is the first time Greenwood Lake will host the Nationals, and we are both
excited and a bit apprehensive . Excited because we want to show all of you what
a truly beautiful part of the country this is, and apprehensive simply because
we have never done this before. Rest assured, all of our fleet members have
been working hard so that our guests will all feel comfortable and have a great
time.
While our facilities may not be as impressive as some, we do have a very
impressive 9-mile lake (half in New Jersey and half in New York) locally
referred to as the "Highlands "of New Jersey . Because of the size of the lake
there are many sailing options, and depending on wind conditions a 6-mile leg is
not unrealistic . We are sure you will be well satisfied with plenty of
sailing time .
Fleet 21 is part of the Awosting Yacht Squadron (AYS ), and the plan is to use
the AYS facilities, specifically the Awosting Boathouse . We plan to run the
regatta from the Boathouse and this will be the center of all activities and
your destination point . This is where you will register, rig and launch your
boat, store the trailers nearby and where you will go after the daily races to
have a beer and tell stories about why you did not win.
A map of the Greenwood Lake area has been posted to the web site (www.selick.com/rebel/nationals2007
) to show you the location of the Awosting Boathouse.
You will be greeted at the Boathouse when you arrive, receive all the good
things you get at a regatta and directed to trailer parking , etc. We plan to
moor all boats at docks near the Boathouse so be sure to bring mooring lines,
fenders, etc. I would also suggest you bring anchor gear just in case we have
so many boats we run out of dock space. A t registration you will receive
dock information. At the end of each day's race, please return to your
assigned dock and then directly to the Boathouse where you can tell more sailing
stories over a beer.
Our party planners are hard at work to provide a schedule that we hope will give
everybody the right mix of sailing parties and free time.
There is quite a choice of potential fun things to do in this part of the world
and I am going to list a few that may interest you .
New York City (a one-hour drive)
It’s impossible to list the shows, restaurants and leisure opportunities. One
of my favorites is the Circle Line Cruise which takes you around Manhattan
Island on a 3 -hour tour; a great way to get a different view of the city
West Point - the United States Military Academy - about 45 minutes away tours
available
Yankee Stadium - spend a day or evening with the "Bronx Bombers"
Jersey Shore -can be reached in 90 minutes and offers beautiful ocean beaches
and the Casinos of Atlantic City
Nearby we have an 18-hole golf course and a par-3 course AND if you want to try
some bass fishing Greenwood Lake is known for its large mouth bass .
Now you may be thinking " When the heck am I going to do all or some of this
good stuff?" based on the sailing schedule. We have a suggestion as to how it
can be done.
Come early and /or stay late. Come a few days ahead or stay a few days after
the sailing and we will find a place to park your boat and trailer . Then you
can take off , do what you want, come back to pick up your boat and head home .
So mark your calendars, put in for vacation time and come East to Greenwood Lake
.
We look forward to making new friends and renewing old friendships .
