Catie Simmons waits out the
postponement by reading her favourite Shakespeare play. (Which reminds
me of a joke I have always loved: A lady steps out of a limousine in
front of Toronto's elegant Royal York Hotel when a homeless man asks
her for a dollar for a cup of coffee. Looking disdainfully down her
nose at him, she replies: "Neither a
borrower nor a lender be, William Shakespeare." To which the
bum responds: "F... off! Henry
Miller." Actually, the best part of this memory, is that shortly after
this joke was told to me by a colleague in my first year of teaching
high school, there was a knock on my classroom door. When I opened the
door, a student was there. "Sir," he said, "Mr. Funke sent me down with
a message for you: Henry Miller."
